ARDC SEEKS CEO TO DRIVE VISION

The Australian Racing Drivers Club is to appoint a chief executive to drive development of Sydney's only motor sport complex, Eastern Creek.

Demand for Eastern Creek's facilities has grown markedly since the recent closure of Oran Park.

ARDC general manager Geoff Arnold and his team will continue to direct operations at the complex.

The chief executive will be responsible for interaction with government and stakeholders.

"The time has come to realise the full potential of the 90-hectare complex within the Sydney basin," newly elected ARDC president Andrew Leithhead said.

"Eastern Creek has a responsibility to several communities - not only those dedicated to motor sport," he said.

"The complex already hosts concerts, special events, and athletics activities, as well as providing a venue for post-licence driver training.

"The closure of Oran Park places an additional requirement on Eastern Creek to meet and manage community need."

The ARDC has successfully operated Eastern Creek International Raceway under lease from the NSW State Government since 1996.

It has several proposals before the Government to further develop the site.
"One of the major imperatives is road safety," Mr Leithhead said.

"There is the potential for Eastern Creek to become the centre of a state-wide best practice, post-licence driver training operation."

Mr Leithhead said the ARDC would actively pursue local and international motor racing opportunities.
