Four small skid steer loaders are helping to save time and expense in reshaping Brisbane's Queen Street Mall.

The productivity and compact size of the four Toyota 4SDK8 skid steer loaders has allowed construction contractors to minimise disruption to traffic around the busy city site.

Brancatella Plant Hire's Toyota skid steer loaders are fitted with a tilting bucket system manufactured in Brisbane by Norm Engineering.

Proprietor Bill Brancatella said the bucket's transverse tilting action saved time and effort when performing work which requires fine control.

The bucket tilts side to side to the required angle, making it ideal for cleaning up uneven building sites or creating dirt embankments for landscaping.

The Toyota skid steer loaders, supplied and serviced locally by Willtrac, are the mainstay of Brancatella Plant Hire's site clean-up and landscaping services.

Toyota's 56 horsepower Toyota Huski 4SDK8 is the most powerful in its class.

Special attention has been paid to safety, durability, operator comfort, ease of operation and serviceability.

Toyota's Huski 4SDK8 has key productivity features including power and lifting capacity (650kg safe operating load with standard bucket).

It also has class-leading ground clearance of 300mm, excellent tail swing and rearward visibility.

The 4SDK8's purpose-designed Toyota 1DZ 2486cc diesel engine delivers its 56 rated horsepower at a low 2400rpm, which results in the engine working at a lower rev range to deliver higher output.

"The nimbleness of the Toyotas makes them ideal for working in tight spaces such as the Queen Street Mall project," Mr Brancatella said.

The first two Toyota skid steer loaders Brancatella Plant Hire bought in 1992 performed more than 7000 hours' work before being replaced.

"We've now settled on keeping our machines for four years or 4000 hours, which makes the Toyota warranty a great deal," Mr Brancatella said.

Brancatella Plant Hire at Capalaba operates a fleet of 30 machines.

It has a staff of 26 and a subsidiary operation with two machines in Maryborough.
